AMPTEK è un progetto di musica elettronica di Alex Marenga, produttore, dj, chitarrista attivo dalla fine degli anni 80, ha collaborato con formazioni rock quali “Simmetrie”, il gruppo di improvvisazione sperimentale elettroacustica “Frammenti di Caos”, approdando nel 1997 alla Nature Records con la quale ha inciso “Narcos” nel 1997.
Fondatore di Eclectic Records, è parte del gruppo electro-funk ENTROPIA, ha realizzato diversi lavori spaziando dalla musica industriale all’electro, dal break beat all’idm e all’ambient.
Ha realizzato musiche per il cinema, il teatro e la televisione.

Questo lavoro, dedicato alle manipolazioni mentali che condizionano la popolazione dei paesi industrializzati nella società contemporanea, è una raccolta di brani di varia natura, come spesso è avvenuto in altri lavori di Amptek, convergono in una sintesi unica varie influenze e vari stili legati all’emisfero elettronico.

“Real Life”, si ispira al sound di un certo rock funk dei primi anni 80, ed è un ennesimo omaggio ai lavori dei Talking Heads.
’”The Key Element” è una ballad minimale sorretta da un riff di basso sulla quale si sviluppa un tema diluito lungo la struttura del brano.
“Freedom of Mind” è un funk elettronico sporco, in cui una ritmica hip-hop sorretta da una bassline tipicamente acid, viene intersecata da timbri di chitarre elettriche e da un tema cromatico.
“Power of Persuasion” è un’altra ballad elettronica dai suoni crepuscolari e intimisti, un tema tonale, che riporta ai lavori fatti per il cinema, è esposto dal pianoforte e da suoni leggeri di sintetizzatori.
”Points of Difference” è un dub etereo, sul quale accanto a suoni discreti di sintetizzatore emergono delle chitarre slide.

‘Blues of the Red Planet’ , uno dei due brani realizzati con il Dr.Lops di Entropia, è una composizione surreale e psichedelica, rafforzata dai sussurri spaziali di Marco Paghewatt (Yax).

“Create your Own Future” un nervosissimo breakbeat isterico, frammenti di campioni eterogenei si inseguono in micro cellule sonore impazzite, un basso funk mantiene la continuità ritmica del brano frammentatissimo, sul quale essenziale scorre un tema di clarinetti.
“Below the Line” è una minisuite ambient che esplode su un finale apertamente dedicato alle atmosfere della psichedelica degli anni 70.
“Materialism” è una marcia dissonante e astratta, atonale nella quale si ritrovano elementi e influenze differenti.
“Oceans of Awareness” è un brano tipicamente dubstep, rarefatto e sospeso sul quale emergono chitarre space-rock.
“The Last Theory” brano meditativo e scuro, con i tappeti orchestrali del Dr.Lops, rientra fra le caratteristiche stilistiche di Amptek, ma anche di Entropia.
“Mysterious Travellers” è invece un funky break-beat saltellante e psichedelico che si sorregge su una ritmica asimmetrica esposta dalle batterie elettroniche e dal basso funky.
L’album è corredato di un out-take a download gratuito “Les Absents”, un brano quasi pop che si snoda su sequenze di accordi di chitarra acustica e sulle parole francesi di una voce femminile.

Alfred John is about to release his debut album, much to the excitement of his already underground base of fans. With the album expected to be a success, the exciting, new-fangled sound that he has made his own is certain to gain interest from across the pond.

The development of his unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up as a teen in the seventies and early eighties with his love for synth pop, he has created his own atmospheric, hypnotic guitar-based instrumental and synthesizer sound with a smooth sophisticated almost haunting voice.

Alfred has also been approached to write new material for several Motion picture studios, including the use of his track “ My Once Upon a Time” for an IFC film coming out this fall. (The trailer for this film is not available as of yet.) The link will be posted as soon as possible.

To describe Alfred John – uplifting, summery, dreamlike, moving quietly, coaxing beauty out of layers of echoes and always-inventive soundscaping. Alex Marenga aka Amptek is a producer, dj and guitar player on duty in italian jazz-rock scene since the latest 80s
He’s performed with bands such as ‘ Simmetrie’ and ‘Frammenti di caos’ (an electro-acoustic experimental band). In 1997 he joined ‘Nature’ record label and recorded the LP ‘Narcos’.
Founded a record label himself called ‘Eclectic Records’ and the electro-funk band ‘Entropia’, which gave birth to many works, challenging itself with electro, break beat, IDM and ambient music .
Cd ‘Demolished man’ has been a work in progress with ‘EXIT STRATEGY’, a team of musicians formed by:
STEFANO BALDASSERONI (The Grandmothers, Patty Pravo, Moony and many others) on drums
GIANCARLO ROMANI (etruria criminale banda) on trumpet and flugelhorn
BIAGIO ORLANDI (Entropia,Quintetto Introverso, RNJ Project) on sax
DR. LOPS (Entropia) on keyboards.
The Demolished man took inspiration by an Alfred Bester’ sci-fi novel.
It tells, almost 30 years before the actual cyberpunk movement, about a society controlled by a totalitarian regime. Technology is the tool that controls and eventually modifies social behaviours while environment is going toward irreversibile process of mutations. This is an usual matter in AMPTEK works.
In The Demolished Man, Leonardo Da Vinci’s ‘Virtuvian Man’ is being transformed and tecnologically deformed, changing is ‘human’ nature and turned to ‘a man inside a point of view’.
The sound is the result of AMPTEK’s past electronic experiences.
First track ‘technology of power’ is a nervous song where a stretched guitar solo plays over an electro-funk rhythm. Minimal dub atmosphere on ‘cognitive dissonance’, instead. Psychedelic vibes on ‘Eternity blues’ and ‘La ligne de demarcation’. A Canterbury-like psychedelic rock is the marker of ‘temple of down’. Experimental textures on space-jazzy themes are heard on ‘the penultimate truth’, ‘equilibrium’ and ‘ body language’.

"You're All Wrong-EP" by HolliePollock has a cool alternative sound to it while also having the Classic Rock feel of Zepplin to it as well. On CD-opener, "Mind the Gap," Indus' playfulness is in full evidence; a rhythmically complex piece that challenges each musician to stay true to the beat, it is an 11-minute workout of pure inspiration. I had the pleasure of getting to know Antonia in the autumn of 2008. Our paths’ crossing was perfect timing and it was clear from the outset we were destined to meet and work together. I had been creating a photographic slideshow of images from the Lofoten Islands in Norway and she was in the throws of recording her first album “A Secret Vision.” I was so blown away by the serenity of her soft sound piano music and became immediately aware that my images had been waiting for her wonderful music in order to finish my project. We forged a bond between us and we’ve been creating together ever since. I am privileged to work with such a talented artist who is an incredibly beautiful human being with a vibrant energy and a thirst for life.
In her second album, “In My Soul” she shares with us her most recent compositions. Her music is growing as she is blossoming into the fine composer and pianist she was born to be. When I listen to her pieces on this album I am enchanted by the magic in her melodies and carried away to a world that only I know deep inside myself and I am inspired to remember stories I had once forgotten and dream fantasies that wait in my tomorrows.
Whether you are full of joy or somehow touched by sadness, when you listen to this fine collection of unique compositions they will surely touch you deep in your heart. Feel the passion in her playing, surrender to the magic that you hear and feel at one with life. Antonia’s music echoes all our stories and I know she has definitely graced my soul.

Raw and untamed, Steve Lieberman the Gangsta Rabbi's "Diaspora" CD is a challenging blast of noise-rock incitement as discordant and disjointed as it is unsettling. Like the late Wesley Willis, Lieberman – a one man sonic wrecking crew, shuns form and convention over the course of 18 tracks that, instead, rely on shock and awe bursts of scorching bass licks and howls of reverent fury to trace a Judaic arc from pre-Biblical times to the 21st century. With a voice that is both tormented and impenetrable, Lieberman sings of his Jewish heritage and faith with an atonal swagger that matches his frenzied grooves beat for beat. And while the whole may add up to a strained musicality (which, as fans of Sonic Youth might attest, can be an art form in itself), there is no denying that the multi-instrumentalist's dissonance (check out the frequent and jarring Jethro Tull-like flute interpolations) is neither accidental nor unschooled. Certainly not for everyone, Steve Lieberman the Gangsta Rabbi's "Diaspora" CD is, nevertheless, genuine and purposed; to that extent, "Diaspora" is no less than a work of self-actualization.

House music is a mystifyingly multitude of Electronica / Dance music with numerous degrees of specialization and nuances. Beats Per Minute (BPM), textural definition and use / non-use of vocals are but a few of the defining characteristics that divide such subgenres of House as Dirty House, French House, and Electro House. Refracture's 3-song CD EP, "Left for Dead," blends elements of different subgenres - most notably Electro House - meaning, the music has the requisite BPM's, is anchored by propulsive bass lines, and features the sonic balance / blend associated with the House styles. All 3 tracks are catchy, infectious, and danceable as all get-out (i.e., very danceable indeed!). The title track, "Left for Dead" kicks things off with a slow-build synth swirl that hesitates before exploding into an irresistible groove punctuated by sonic squeaks and squalls that drop out of nowhere, keeping the mix continuously fresh. "Space Riot" and "Energy Flow" are both more immediate and insistent, but no less engaging, and each makes a case for being the best of the 3 mixes on the CD. If you're a House music connoisseur you will make up your own mind about the House attributes and qualifications of Refracture's "Left for Dead" EP, but if you're an Electronica music fan I think you'll find this CD delivers where it counts: on the dance floor.

"Live At the House of Sin" is an incredible collaboration between English singer/songwriter Phil Shoenfelt and Czech violinist and guitarist Pavel Cingl. Recorded live at the Nova Sin club in Prague, this album features digs into the Shoenfelt songbook and features Shoenfelt on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, reminiscent of Iggy Pop and Nick Cave, and Cingl contributing incredible violin and electric guitar work to accompany the acoustic rhythms and give the tracks a full sound. The resulting songs have a great mix of gothic and folk, as Shoenfelt delivers intelligent and memorable lyrics of sorrow, love, life, and death. This is the type of performance best heard live, and "Live At the House of Sin" is recorded cleanly and the product sounds great. "Saviour's Day" begins with clean acoustic and violin work, then moves into a sorrowful violin progression that perfectly matches the sadness of Shoenfelt's lyrics of lost love. "Shivers Inside" features electric and acoustic guitar work, and is an incredible, slow and lyrical love song from Shoenfelt. "Hospital" is another great violin and acoustic collaboration that creates a beautiful harmonic sound and features more great lyrics from Shoenfelt. "Live At the House of Sin" is a great album, beautifully arranged, and thought-provoking from a couple of talented musicians with a lot of street cred. Fans of goth, folk, and the likes of Iggy Pop and Nick Cave should definitely pick this one up.

"Searching For You" is the impressive debut from UK multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Spinous. This album is filled with ten catchy and groovy pop songs that draw from rock, funk, and r&b. With the exception of some of the drum and bass work, Spinous composed and performed all of the arrangements on this release, showing his skill both in layering and arranging. Spinous gives a strong vocal performance that sounds somewhere between Sting, Seal, and Prince. The songs are catchy and melodic, with great toe-tapping beats and meaningful, memorable lyrics. Spinous also self-produced "Searching For You," and it sounds great, his full vision fulfilled. "All I Need Is Time" begins with a nice drumbeat and keyboard work, then builds to incorporate a groovy guitar line and moves into great lyrical verse. "All The Things" is an incredibly poppy song with an energetic drumbeat, refined keyboard progressions and solos, more great lyrics, and a catchy chorus. Overall, "Searching For You" is a great debut from Spinous, with great groovy tracks that'll simultaneously make you want to move and sing along. Fans of groovy pop with rock, r&b, and funk influences should check Spinous out.

"Fagan & Payne" is the self-titled debut featuring a well-crafted collection of songs that are classically upbeat with a touch of broodiness from UK artists Fagan & Payne. Kelly Fagan's voice wraps itself beautifully around Lucho Payne's wonderful and diverse acoustic guitar work. Their relationship leaves little need for trickery; rather, Fagan & Payne are all about great melodies, a naturally distinct sound, and great performances. Although they have their own styles, the two incorporate several genres into their act, including alternative and pop rock, lounge, and jazz, and they do it with ease. This album is well-recorded with an intimate quality that makes you feel as though you could hear a pin drop. Highlights include the opener, "The Story of Me and You," which sets the tone right off the bat, creating an immediate window into the concept, and includes some cool hand claps, a lovely guitar progression, and a crisp vocal. "Dear Dear Me" features a great lounge jazz progression and a warm vocal performance. "Started Thinking (Stuart Boldt Remix)" wraps up the album with a great layering of vocals, thumping beat, and a simple acoustic progression and extreme danceability. If you enjoy acoustic acts with a dark swagger and style, you will enjoy Fagan & Payne.

"The Exodus is Here" is a fast-paced, guitar-driven hard rock album from Alien Alright. Alien Alright is true to the hard rock sound of the '60s and '70s, and his guitar progressions and solos have a certain timelessness to them. His lyrics follow the same format, and when they are not timeless, they are critical of the state of the music world today. "The Exodus is Here" was recorded as a seven-track album because Alien Alright wants music to return to its roots. Alien believes that for an album to be appreciated and loved and for a song to be all it can be, it cannot not be overproduced with the intent for radio play. His vocals also draw from the '60s and '70s through the likes of Robert Plant and Neil Young and create an original raw sound. The album is well-recorded and allows for those guitar solos to burst through the speakers clearly and cleanly. "Make Some Noise" contains a Jim James-style falsetto then moves into some great wailing vocals that creates an overall Zeppelin-esque sound. "Record Store Blues" has an inviting guitar progression as he sings about the overabundance of musicians today and longs for the purer days of musical yore. "The Exodus is Here" is a bold album that makes bold statements about the music industry past and present. Fans of early hard rock, give this album a try.

"Life" by Dr. Jyotsna Srikanth features some wonderful violin work courtesy of Dr. Srikanth. It is largely based around Carnatic music (one of the two forms of Indian classical music). This particular style is typically written to be sung, but violin acts as the voice in these pieces. It's quite moving and very driven by emotion. Highlights of the album include "Memories," which features subtle, but memorable violin work. "Alone With Mother Nature" is a nice Jazz/Indian fusion with great violin and piano work. "Bowling the Violin" is an interesting up-tempo "almost" rock song with some tricky violin "solos". This is a relaxing, curious and adventurous album by an accomplished musician. If you like Jazz, anything fused with Jazz and beautiful violin, you will like this album.

Richard's warm, soothing vocals are a highlight of the CD, and have a pleasant yet raspy tone that reminds us of Edwin McCain and Del Amitri. The songwriting shines with highly refined lyrics and memorable melodies. The acoustic guitar on the CD, such as on "Down in this Town" and "1931" has a very beautiful tone that allows Richard's skillful guitar work to cut through the recording nicely.
